Just as newer technologies continue to replace older technologies, employees must continue to receive updated technical training. Technical skills training is a necessary component of continuing education if employees are to keep abreast with the changes and perform their duties correctly. Even highly skilled employees with many years of experience need additional training from time to time.
Imagine now the challenge of providing this training when employees speak a different language. It is usually a very risky endeavor to just use a bilingual employee to interpret for detailed technical training. Under this circumstance, you have two options. The first choice is defined training in the language that the person speaks, and the second choice is to retain a professional interpreter.
Technical training in another language
Depending on the specific technical training that is required, a qualified instructor might not be available for that language. Perhaps you can investigate online training as another option. There are many online courses available that might do the trick. However, online training is never really the most effective teaching method. It isn’t engaging, and it can be very boring.
Professional Interpreters
Using professional interpreters can be a viable option. However, there are some things that you must keep in mind. Medical interpreters specialize in the medical field and are familiar with medical terminology. Legal interpreters specialize in the legal field and are familiar with legal terminology. Safety interpreter are familiar with safety terminology. For Instance, I am an Authorized OSHA® safety trainer in both General Industry and Construction. Because of my familiarity with these subjects, I often interpret for other safety professionals and colleagues. Often, because of my qualifications, they just let me teach it myself in Spanish.
Occasionally, we receive requests for interpreters in technical training. When this occurs, we search our vast network for certified or qualified interpreters and sometimes translators that are familiar and experienced with the languages and the specific technical material that will be covered. Sometimes the search results in a qualified interpreter nearby. At times, we locate one across the country and you must decide if you wish to fly him in or use video remote interpreting.
A couple of years ago, we had a group of employees from Russia who needed specific technical training at a company in South Carolina. Our search resulted in a match with an interpreter from Asheville which wasn’t too far away.
From time to time, we receive a variety of unique request. When we do, we take pride in serving as resolution specialists. We have a great track record of locating precisely what our customers have needed.
