Safety trainers are always seeking better ways to motivate others and reach their heart. Sometimes this is done by showing others the terrible results of ignoring safety, or we use the love of family to convince them why it is so important. Another possible tool is to share Bible principles with those who are vocal about their faith and respect for the Bible. Below are some Bible principles that can be used in that effort. I have referenced a variety of Bible translations in this post.
Fall protection:
Deut 22:8 (King James Version – KJV) When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.
Deut 22:8 (Byington – By) When you build a new house you shall make a parapet for your roof, and not get bloodguilt on your house when someone falls from it.
Ex 21:33,34 (American Standard Version – ASV) And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit and not cover it, and an ox or an ass fall therein, the owner of the pit shall make it good; he shall give money unto the owner thereof, and the dead beast shall be his.
This illustrates the importance of taking proper safety precautions to avoid bloodguilt when digging a trench.
General Safety Precautions:
Proverbs 22:3 (New World Translation – NWT) The shrewd one sees the danger and conceals himself, But the inexperienced keep right on going and suffer the consequences.
Prov 3:21-23 (ASV) My son, let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep sound wisdom and discretion: So shall they be life unto thy soul, And grace to thy neck. Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, And thy foot shall not stumble.
It is wise to be cautious and look out for any possible dangers. Additionally, one should take appropriate actions when possible dangers are recognized.
Concern for others:
Phil 2:4 (by) not each keeping his eyes on his own interests but on those of others too
If you see someone at risk, you should always speak up. We need to look out for one another.
Avoid overconfidence:
Matt 4:5-7 (KJ) Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
A Christian might feel confident about God’s protection and thus feel that many safety precautions aren’t necessary. However even Jesus would not put that to the test. It is both wise and scriptural to not take chances and work with caution.
