Medical interpreter options in SC
In recent years, there have been many changes in the USA health care sector. We have observed changes in the way doctors practice medicine. Also, hospitals have been consolidating.
In March of 2010, The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, known by most people as Obamacare was enacted into law. As a result, many changes began to occur. Doctors were under obligation to provide complete care. This made it more difficult for individual doctors to manage their own offices. They needed to become part of a larger team who can treat whatever needs the patient might have. As part of complete care, doctors are also now required to provide a medical interpreter if a patient needs one.
Shortly after Obamacare was enacted, doctors began to affiliate themselves with hospitals in order to provide complete care. Most hospitals provide their own interpreters and many of them use telephonic or video interpreters as well.
As part of the hospital policy, many doctors’ offices now found themselves obligated to use telephonic or video interpreters. Many of the health care professionals that I speak to hate using telephonic interpreters. Sometimes the signal is bad or the interpreter isn’t very effective They can’t always hear and observe everything that is occurring in the visit.
I have also found that many doctors’ offices and medical groups have found themselves obligated to use telephonic interpreters for their practices in order to comply with Obamacare. Typically, in-person interpreters are much more effective than those accessed by the telephone. However, national agencies usually charge a premium for them and most small companies cannot afford it.
If you are a medical practice in the State of South Carolina and you have found this to be your frustration, consider Alfonso interpreting. Alfonso interpreting is a Company that provides professional health care interpreters throughout the state of South Carolina. Believe me, we aren’t cheap. Nevertheless, because we are much smaller than national agencies, we can compete on price and availability without sacrificing professionalism.
