The Simpsons is one of the longest-running North American television shows. Did you know that it has been dubbed in eight languages? A colleague relayed a story about a foreign national who came to the US for business. The visitor could speak English and was excited to watch The Simpsons in its original language. However, the foreign businessperson could not understand “cowabunga” or “don’t have a cow, man.” This individual spoke English but did not understand American culture.
For quite some time, we have been translating safety material for ourselves and our clients. It is common for us to translate PowerPoint presentations into Spanish. A natural progression from that has been to translate online training modules which are very similar to slide presentations.
For web-based training, in addition to the translation, these presentations contain audio in conjunction with the slides. This audio must also be translated. Afterward, a voiceover recording must be done in Spanish or whatever the target language is.
Our company not only offers safety instruction in both Spanish and English, but also delivers professional translation and interpreting services in over two dozen languages. We lend our voice to professional interpreting services and safety training classes. Naturally, we decided to add this service to our list. It is a perfect fit for our wheelhouse. Our clients are finding expansion into foreign-language markets in their backyard.
However, not everyone is blessed with a radio voice. I am an experienced CCHI certified interpreter and proudly admit that I am a talented and skilled teacher. Nonetheless, my voice does not lend itself to recorded presentations. Nevertheless, there are some team members that do have great voices. Depending on your needs, a male or female will be selected to voice for an engaging training. We want to ensure that our clients receive the full services they require to train their Latino and other limited English proficient (LEP) workers.
Along with these services, if you wish, we can also provide short, video introductions to your safety presentation. Visual engagement can stimulate the listeners to pay rapt attention to the voiceover presentation. If your safety orientation, training information, manuals or other data may require translation, voiceover, video, or all three, it is our pleasure to discuss your needs and budget to consider your options.
